This was really interesting. I feel like it follows the theme of most movies but they span it out as a show and it makes it a lot better. I walked into it thinking it would just be another Halloween show that follows a certain theme and was really weird with unrelatable characters but I warmed up to it as I went on. I don't have a full review, but I have a few pinpoints I think. As the show goes on, the characters clearly change but it's not by a lot until the end. I think something interesting is how episodes are consistant but there's a gap in-between them. Every episode feels like there's a missing piece of the story in-between and I noticed this too with infinity train when I watched that. A gigantic like thought I had is just is it real? I'll find out in a bit but after seeing the ending I definitely have to figure it out. It seems like it's something that actually happened when they hopped the wall, but also it could just be they fell into that pond and it was when they had a coma and it's interesting how they shared the dream. I feel Wirt is honestly just a relatable character in some ways. He's overdramatic but it sends off a point. While he's crying and hating everything about himself, Greg sees him as a hero. He sees him as a great person and a supporter while Wirt thinks Greg is just a nuisance. I know the show clearly has a few tropes that are in movies such as when Greg seems to die in the end before the big ending, but that's expected in most film. I loved how characters were built. There's a huge theme throughout it where we're warned about the beast throughout the story and we only see him in the shadows. The beast is incredibly mysterious and represents the unknown. I didn't expect in any way shape or form that the lantern is what was keeping the beast alive. I knew it was keeping the mans daughter alive and that's what I had believed the whole time. I didn't expect that it was the reason the beast was alive at all. I knew the man was working for the beast and suspected that he knew he was working for it. I also originally saw Beatrice as the enemy. I thought she was working for the beast and she would reveal it. It's interesting how she wasn't working for the beast but instead was working for Adelaide. I'm not sure how Adelaide connects to the beast but I'm sure she does somehow. When I first saw her intentions and speaking about youth, I first thought about the Baba Yaga and I think she might be one. She wanted to lure in the children to work for her and eventually to eat them. I could be wrong though. Overall I think all the characters are just incredibly well built and that itself probably added 3 stars to my review.
